Frequently asked questions
Buying, installing, licensing and updating Mugen IE Lab plugins.
Buying
What do I actually get when I buy a plugin?
A licence key and access to the signed macOS installer for that plugin, plus every future update within the same major version. Downloads live in your account and are also emailed to you.
Which currency are prices in?
All prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP). Your bank may convert at its own rate if your card is in another currency. VAT and sales tax are handled automatically at checkout based on your location.
Do you offer bundles or discounts?
Bundles, collections and educational pricing are on the roadmap. Join the newsletter and you will hear about launch offers first.
Is there a trial or demo?
Where a plugin has a demo build it is linked on its product page. Otherwise the YouTube walkthrough is the best way to hear it before buying.
Installing
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 10.15 Catalina and later. All plugins are Universal 2 binaries running natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Which formats do you ship?
Audio Unit (AU) and VST3, with a standalone application for some plugins. Each product page lists exactly what that plugin includes.
Will macOS warn me when I install?
No. Every installer is code-signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so Gatekeeper accepts it without any warning or override.
Where do the files get installed?
AU components go to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and VST3 to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. The installer handles this for you.
My DAW cannot see the plugin.
Restart the DAW so it rescans. In Logic, the AU validation runs on launch. In Ableton and FL Studio you may need to trigger a manual plugin rescan in preferences.
Licensing
How many machines can I use one licence on?
Three simultaneous activations, which covers a studio machine and a laptop with one spare. You can deactivate a machine at any time to free a slot.
Do I need to be online to use the plugin?
Only for the initial activation. After that the licence is cached locally and the plugin works offline.
I am replacing my computer. What do I do?
Deactivate the licence on the old machine first if you still have it. If the machine has already gone, contact support and we will release the slot for you.
Updates & support
Are updates free?
Yes, every point and minor update within a major version is free for life. A future version 2 of a plugin would be a separate paid upgrade, and existing owners get a discount.
How do I know when an update is out?
Updates appear in your account, and plugins can notify you in-app when a newer version is available.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. Windows VST3 builds are on the roadmap and existing licence keys will carry across when they arrive.
Can I use the sounds commercially?
Yes. Anything you create with a Mugen IE Lab plugin is yours, royalty-free, in any commercial release. You may not redistribute the plugin itself or its raw content as a sample pack.
